A Quiet Life in Art

My involvement with painting began about forty years ago with an extended visit to the Smithsonian Museum and its Galleries and my subsequent exposure to the core to the world's great art and the beginning of my fascination with it.

Subsequent visits to the major museuems and important galleries in our travels developed into our essential places of interest, focus, refuge and learning.

After retirement (teaching, construction contractor, purchasing manager),influenced by last 1890's German-Austrain-French breakaway groups, basically the German "die Bruche" and French pre-moderns, I began, untutored, working in ink and paper and water colors and arrived at acrylics as my preferred medium.

I have been active as a painter for the past seven years, although I have not actively shown my work. My painting has evolved through fundamental changes in character and direction. This is plainly expressed in the content of my pieces. An epiphanic element emerges philosophically in my work. It is central to the work and I am very comfortable with it.

Thank you for your interest in my work. It is meant, all of it,  to bring pleasure and comfort and joy to the viewer. There is little enough of that in our world and if my painting can bring happiness into the lives of folks who share it with me, then it is truly successful and that, after all, is the point of creating.

Again,my thanks.
